1 Thing You Can Do This Week to Line Yourself Up for Success

Use the Right Verb

When connecting your subject with your object, find the energy to make it powerful.

Be verbal.

ReVERBerate.

If “I” is your subject and “money” is your object, what is the verb that joins the two words?

Is it need? I need money?

Much too desperate.

Is it spend? I spend money?

Typical.

Is it love? I love money?

Then be prepared to dig out the root of evil.

Choose carefully.

I value money. Perhaps—as long as it doesn’t become your heart’s mission.

What if the subject is “I” and the object is “you?”

I hate you. That’s vicious.

I love you. Are you prepared for that commitment?

I ignore you. Be prepared to be ignored, and also receive a side of criticism.

I appreciate you. That verb sends a chill down the human spine.

We want to be loved, but it’s so much better when appreciation is included.

Use the right verb.

It will propel you as you take your subject and journey to your object.

1 Thing That Makes Sense All the Time

REPENTANCE

“Don’t you just hate change!” he said with a huge bobby-bubbalicious smirk, looking across the room at what he knew to be adoring fans to his wit and humor.

Although an older gent, he was confident in his attractiveness and the sway he held with the little conclave. He paused, allowing time for the “amens, attaboys,” and “you-said-a-mouthfuls” to pour through the room, and then turned to me, awaiting my appreciation for what he considered to be an obvious observation about the nastiness of change.

I probably should have kept my mouth shut.

I certainly would have been more popular. But instead, I replied, “Mark my word, dear friends, death and taxes are not certain, but change is—and those who try to stall its purpose will find the wheels of progress rolling over their sensitive toes.”

I received no support for my position. After all, if the human race did not have an explainable ignorance, we would have to conclude it was pernicious.

Repentance should always be at the ready, or you may very well find yourself doing a “perish in your parish.” Therefore, as each new day begins, and you realize that neither you nor I created the universe—rather, we are permitted to remain on a very tentative lease—try to follow the spirit of common sense wherever it goes. That spirit will tell you:

  1. Change is necessary.
  2. You are necessary.
  3. Therefore, you will change.

1 Thing You Can Do This Week (To Become A True Leader)

1 Thing You Can Do This Week (To Become A True Leader)

PRACTICE SAYING “THANK YOU” ALL THE TIME

You may think you do, but you certainly could be surprised.

After awhile, we assume that a “thank you” floats into the air because we are accustomed to the atmosphere or the people we work and live with. But the actual verbiage–the statement itself–is often abandoned in favor of a look, a nod of the head and a whispered portion of the phrase quietly falling off our lips.

It’s not the same thing.

And even though speaking “thank you” may feel a little strange at first–generating an embarrassment that you’re overdoing it–in the long run it is impossible to say the words since they are necessary.

You will become a great leader when you speak “thank you.”

THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF SAYING “THANK YOU”

It does the following three things:

1. It establishes the gift of appreciation.

2. It’s an extraordinarily positive habit.

3. It is a powerful example to encourage people to get along without using daily pep talks.

It is our pride that stops us from being thankful, so it is our humility that will free us from the evil spirit of ingratitude.

Jon close up

May G-Pop make a suggestion to his children? How about:

Hello.

How are you?

Are you well?

What can I do to help?

You can go first.

Are you okay?

Where’d you get the outfit?

I was thinking of you.

You can do better.

I believe in you.

Don’t give up.

You don’t have to agree.

I wish you well.

I’m listening.

I see what you’re trying to do.

I appreciate you.

Thank you.

Try one of these. See if it works. Share with another human being an expression of possibility. If it’s successful, next time you might want to try two.

Take What You Can Get

How you treat me

I can’t predict

How I treat you

Is in my power

Waiting for your appreciation

Stalls my progress

Giving forth your portion

Cleans my conscience

Do I want to be powerful

Or find solace in generosity?

Is there any victory in your defeat

Or just a hollow chest thump?

Where did we go wrong?

How does winning become joy

If losing destroys my warmth

Leaving me cold and vacant?

We don’t need to be friends

To cease the gnawing strife

Agreement may escape our grasp

But sweet Spirit grants space

Everything doesn’t need to be right

To chase the wrong away

Just a respect for one another

Manifested each and every day
