1 Thing That Haunts Us

U. R. C.

It stands for Unresolved Conflict.

We’ve entered a time when maintaining civility, promoting peacefulness and a general sense of well-being has gained supremacy over the necessity of resolving conflict.

As a result, millions—perhaps billions—of people are walking around tolerating each other, trying to be as kind as possible, but struggling through strife which has not been addressed.

I will tell you clearly that unresolved conflict is the source of most of our fear, worry, gossip and depression.

Fear

In the sense that we do not know who to trust.

Worry

Because we are terrified that we’re being talked about behind our backs.

Gossip

Unable to resolve the conflict with the one we care about, we start discussing it with people who have too many opinions.

Depression

We give up and don’t talk at all—just muddle through our sadness.

Granted, there are times when there isn’t enough energy or desire to continue a discussion to a conclusion. There’s nothing wrong with walking away in the middle of a fight.

But both parties must agree to the following:

“This is not resolved but I promise not to discuss it with anyone else until we can get back together and talk again.”

The Z Word … July 30th, 2019

WORD

And finally, the Z word that should never be spoken or written again is:

Zealot

A zealot is a person who, though still human, becomes obsessed with a divine calling to be supremely right and to manifest the conviction through:

Fanaticism and an uncompromising attitude

I have found it

It is good

I am right

It is perfect

You must leave it alone

I will fight you over it

This is what makes a zealot. It is very easy to become a one. It occurs between step 2, “It is good,” and step 3, “I am right.”

For since we wear skin and are prone to error, we should never translate the goodness we experience as being a definitive sign that we’re right.

Everything that happens after that proclamation of rightness is deeper and deeper wells of arrogance drudging up more and more of the filth of selfishness and eventually violence.

I have found it.

Great. This is good. This is a bold statement that is still acceptable. But at no time during your season on Earth are you ever going to be able to say, “I am right.” As soon as you do, you trigger the need to cheat, lie, abuse and curse your way into proving that your profile is accurate.

Zealots are never good.

Zealots never achieve anything except proving that pride goes before every fall.

PoHymn: A Rustling in the Stagnant … October 21st, 2015

PoHymn October 21st

Even When

I want to be a light

But often in the dark

I yearn to win the fight

But find I’m stuck in park

I dream of changing the tide

Of shining a better way

But joining the wrong side

Absent the words to say

At times I am a witness

Evidence of good thought

Then lazy, devoid of fitness

To complete what I sought

My failure makes me cry

Weakness tempts me to lie

Faith encourages the need to try

And pride wants me to die

I refuse to understand my appeal

Possessed by selfish zeal

To some I am a solution

To others, living pollution

But to each I bring my story

Filled with pain and glory

Yes, even when I am weak

My heart has a message to speak.
