Bad inflow, stinky outflow.
The human race has been given lots of bad information.
Thus the stink in the air.
The collaborators are at work. They have gotten together and either lined up in one brigade or clumped in another–those camps being the secular notion that all human beings are basically good, just needing to be left alone to prosper within their own consciousness, or the religious assertion that we are rotten, and if God doesn’t save us and constantly monitor our activities, we are fodder for hell.
It’s spooky.
And trying to find a real life out of these warring armies of philosophy makes the common person like me wish for some peace. The problem is, I end up less productive than I wish to be.
Human beings are probably one of the simpler forms of life.
We are not creatures in the jungle, struggling for survival. We are not bees, frantically trying to make honey, and we also are not cockroaches, scurrying across the floor to escape being squashed by grossed-out adults.
We have two buttons. Yes, just two: LESS and MORE. Should we press LESS or press MORE?
The conflict arises when our ego tells us to press MORE when LESS is needed, or our fear demands we press LESS when it’s time to hunker down on the MORE button.
The entire Gospel of Jesus was a less and more proposal. Don’t take my word for it–you read it and you’ll see the principle. He came to guide us into what should be done less, what should be thought less and what should be felt less, and what requires a good dose of more.
You don’t have to go any further than the Beatitudes to find this in full application:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit.”
In other words, less ego about being spiritual because you really aren’t, and God doesn’t expect you to be anything but human.
“Blessed are they that mourn.”
More compassion is needed for others if we expect to feel the compassion coming back our way.
“Blessed are the meek.”
Less struggling, fighting, arguing, back-biting and cursing will give us a chance to buy time for a shift in society’s thinking or a change of scenery.
“Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness.”
We all need more energy in trying to learn to achieve our goals by using the most common sense we can possibly muster.
“Blessed are the merciful.”
It’s made clear that the more merciful we are to others, the more we receive in return.
“Blessed are the pure in heart.”
The less we inundate our emotions with unnecessary arguments, the easier it is to see God working in our lives.
“Blessed are the peacemakers.”
The more we stay out of the fracas of politics and religious intolerance, the more we will be viewed as individuals who make things happen–good things.
“Blessed are those which are persecuted for righteousness sake.”
Yes, less worry about whether we will come out on top. We should stop being concerned about goodness going out of style.
And the culmination: “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad.”
Bluntly, less fretting about whether things are going to turn out well for us here on Earth and in the kingdom beyond.
Step into your day with your two buttons: LESS and MORE.
Then take the time, all the good things you’ve learned, and choose which one to press when it is the moment to render an excellent decision.
We are delighted to announce that every afternoon from now until Christmas we will be posting sittings from the story, “Jubilators,” for your enjoyment. Good reading and Merry Christmas!

Little girl blue
Come blow your mind
Laugh when it’s true
Play ’til you find.
Lass with the brass
Tweak your reed
Upgrade in class
Bleed the seed
Woman in red
Twirl your hair
Rise from their dead
Questioning as you care
You wore pink
He in brown
Paused to think
Lost his frown
Princess in black
Cut yourself slack
Nurturing the pain
Borderline insane
Girly child
Exquisite with green
Meek swallows mild
Your time, intervene
For none of us will ever know
It’s rarely clear which way to go
So when we finally grasp the keys
We’ll have the sense to embrace our peace
Our reader this week is Angel, who owns her own business and lives in Shanghai with her husband and two children

I came to stay awhile
Taking my turn at the trial
Giggling at the silly dog
Admiring the antics of the leaping frog
Considering the second mile.
Birth–beyond my control
Gradually took its toll
Making me question my reason
Always striving to be pleasin’
Without losing my soul.
The minutes jump the hour
And soon become a day
The days abandon the week
A month just slips away
The years are far too meek
The last breath slowly released
So grab on tightly with all your might
Train your thoughts for the good fight
“There is no God,” taunts the fool
Yet Father walks in the twilight cool
Still lingering in the Eden Garden.

There are matters that are too important to ignore or leave to chance. These are salient moments.
There is no escape.
No value in running.
Certainly no place to hide.
There are nearly a billion eyeballs staring at you and tens of millions of I-Phones trained on your every move.
Privacy is a concept but never a reality. You are being viewed, and often critically. Even individuals who do not speak to you are still noting your temperament, actions, generosity or lack of compassion.
Perhaps the greatest irony in the human experience is the notion that each one of us should carry a certain amount of overwrought self-esteem, even though simultaneously, you will not tolerate it in any other mortal.
Common sense should kick in. You and I should realize that since we are a species that respects the hell out of humility, pushing our self-worth too far guarantees a backlash from those who feel we are overbearing.
You must realize that kindness, mercy, grace and gentleness are not virtues but rather, precautions–used by intelligent people to protect them from the galling scrutiny of bystanders who draw conclusions from very little evidence.
And from those conclusions they decide how they will treat you.
Case in point:
Sometimes they don’t even know why they don’t like you, but they remember how you cut someone off in traffic, and it pissed them off.
They recall being in the room when you lied to your wife or your family.
They watch as, for the fourteenth time, you walk by a homeless person who is seeking a buck.
They burn with anger over your lack of consideration, caused by your perpetual boredom with your own life. Even though they themselves wouldn’t have done anything differently, you are not permitted indiscretion. You are not allowed to be obnoxious.
Courtesy is not an adventure of the meek, trying to keep the world civil. It is a coat of armor to protect against the slings and arrows which come from the probing public, always ready to indict, prosecute and convict.
And that doesn’t even take into consideration that there may be an Eternal Creator, also watching, who happens to know the number of “glares in your head.”
If you decide to be surly, always realize that there are people who saw it. They will take that encounter and use it against you in a time and place which you do not know.
So now for our salient moment. May I keep it simple?
Be mean, be seen.
Be kind, clear mind.

Listen to the Poet
It is important, I am told
Speak clearly, stand, be bold
No time for me to waver a bit
Be strong, firm, support the shit
Find my place in the fold
For only traitors ever question
And the silly fools try to mention
The unanswered riddle
Or the power of the middle
Silently endorse the conclusion
If blood is red
And God is dead
Women must be weak
Destroy the lowly meek
And honor the common thread
So don’t raise your hand to the sky
To inquire who, what, when and why
Lubricate the system’s joints
By memorizing all the talking points
Muffle your inner cry
Silence! master of the blabber
I am sick in soul over all your jabber
I need to hear beyond my fear
And dare to peer through my single tear
And discover for myself … what matters
