1 Thing You Can Do to Escape the Foolishness of Struggle

May the Force NOT Be with You

May you find a way to keep yourself out of situations where you feel forced to perform like a trick pony or forced to complete the inventory without any joy.

May you laugh at the idea of constantly being encompassed by an agenda, especially when finishing the task brings no sense of celebration.

May you wisely refrain from feeling forced to fight to defend yourself.

Realize that those who are supposedly out to get you usually end up getting themselves.

And certainly, stop feeling forced to pray, to fulfill some sort of pious quota with God, or forced to believe so those around you can confirm that you’re part of the faithful.

Since working is the lot of those in the human family, find a reason to do it with humor and joy instead of being forced to climb out of your bed and trudge to the mines.

And most of all:

Do not allow yourself to be forced into a grownup world that’s full of sneers, leers, tears and jeers.

My hope for you, each and every one, is:

MAY THE GOOD CHEER BE WITH YOU.

pohymn-blackbird

The Crow

Here comes the crow

Flying very low

Peering for a weakness

Destroy the holy meekness

Render the nasty blow

Nothing of its own

Gnawing on the bone

Selfish and so vicious

Drooling with malicious

Cursed to be alone

Will you stand in the field

Your rigid post and never yield

Frighten away the wicked bird

Expose the taunting absurd

Until the victory is sealed?

The crow looms to steal

Mocking what is real

Pecking at the child’s dream

Disrupting the beauty of the rising cream

Removing the warmth to feel

Anger is not a way to think

Filth never a suitable drink

Pride always a bitter pill

Empty cup never refill

As the sands slowly sink

Scare the crow–start today

Wave your arms as you pray

Stop the menacing flying

Expose the nauseous lying

Choose the pearls to say.

PoHymn Crying

crying

I am a voice crying in the wilderness

My throat is parched from screaming the need

Excuse me, sir, can you take a moment’s thought

To wonder why the Earth won’t move?

Flowers in the spring dare to bloom in front of us

Deserts of dreams simply blow away

A smile on the street seems to be suspicious

Churches that pray never seize the day

Come with me

(we’re too busy)

I have life

(so do we)

Where’s your joy?

(nothing’s funny)

Deal with me

(we have bigger barns to build)

I am the voice pleading in the land of less

We pan for gold in fields of debris

We seek for truth and draw swords of selfishness

We bless a lie and curse the truth

Come, won’t you join me in Jordan’s waters?

Cleansing the soul which has lost its feel

Tumbling the dice as you kneel before us

Casting your lot through the holy meal

Festering frightened

Ever enlightened

Joyfully jumbled

Wistfully humbled

I’m the voice

(crying)

Reformation Pohymn

Reformation

Much more than a confirmation

We are children of a reformation

Finding ways to embrace each other

Let me call you sister and brother

Escaping the screaming crowd

Who struggle with the proud

Let us take the Jesus path

Allow our hearts a childlike laugh

And weep for those bound by need

The sower going forth to scatter the seed

And determine that the way we pray

Comes from the heart, not mere words to say

And pepper the south, north, west and east

With the salt of the earth for those deemed least

We are the reformation

A royal priesthood, holy nation

I believe in you

Will you believe in me?

God will guide us through

The Son will make us free.

PoHymn Nov 11

A Picture of Time

The first shall be the last

The slow will run fast

What we think must surely change

All our plans will rearrange

The price will exceed our wealth

We will struggle for better health

What we believe will soon evolve

As the world continues to resolve

Our family grows to travel away

While dreams threaten to go astray

For we must learn to prepare our feast

Set the table for those deemed least

And conquer the fear that swallows our love

Soar like eagles but live like the dove

Learning the power of speaking what’s true

Keeping some old but embracing the new

No, life is not a bowl of cherries

Settled by destiny or holy fairies

It is at best a time to learn

To spy the corner and make the turn

Uncertain of what may lie ahead

Resurrecting breath and burying the dead

For soon we all will cease to be

A picture, a thought, a memory

So stand for something, as dear souls should

And pray to God that it is good.
